Western Foundry

A small group of men gathered Friday afternoon to say farewell to a place where they forged lifelong friendships.
The Western Foundry on East Eighth Street in Holland closed last fall and will soon be tumbling down to make way for a new 3,500-seat arena for Hope College.
Bill Lucas, plant manager and company president, invited a handful of long-timers back to tour the foundry before the wrecking ball strikes.

Power to the people.
That's what the J.H. Campbell Complex delivers to electric customers far and wide from its sprawling facility on the shore of Lake Michigan.
The complex is comprised of three plants generating enough electricity to power about a million homes.

Howard Miller Co.

Like many youngsters looking to make a little pocket change, Philip Miller worked at an assortment of odd jobs in the summer.
When he was 10, he mowed the grass and cared for the grounds at the Howard Miller Clock Co. in Zeeland.
It gave the boy some spending money, nurtured his growing work ethic, and helped pass the time on those long summer days.
The only difference was that his family's name was on the company sign.

Antique Mall Closes

For Judy Elenbaas, the closing of Tulip City Antique Mall in June is bittersweet.
Elenbaas owns the business along with her mother, Dorothy Schrotenboer, and Leslie Lampen.
"I think all of us have ambivalent feelings," she said.
For seven years they have owned a choice piece of real estate along busy U.S. 31 in Holland Township.
